Hawkestone Park  24th July 2010

   

 

Seventy seven riders started the classic trial at Hawkestone Park, the first part of possibly

the last ever classic weekend at the famous Shropshire venue.

Two routes were plotted by Pete Reed and Simon Chell, one for expert class and one for clubman class riders with Intermediates riding half hard and half easy sections.

Several riders taking part would also be competing in the scramble the next day and one of them, Chris Collins, made the long trip from Norfolk worthwhile with a superb effort to complete the three laps of fifteen sections for a loss of just two marks to run out a convincing winner.

Ten marks behind in second place was John Maxfield, beating Graham Brown into third place by one.

Alan Nicklin led the field at the end of lap one with a clean round but his Greeves sucked in some Hawkestone sand on lap two and it spluttered to a stop on sections ten and thirteen putting him out of the running.

The over 350 class saw a close battle between Robert Bowyer and Andy Richardson, both failed section two first time, Andy adding three and Rob four by the end of the lap. Rob lost three marks to Andy’s four on lap two to level the scores but a failure at the eleventh on his last visit cost Andy the class win.

Herefords Andy Pitt took the Intermediate class win by two marks from Dave Jones with Steve Walker third, four marks further back.

Antony Charles was the clear winner in the Clubman class nine marks better than Ben Dutton with Martin Patrick taking third place.
